One cannot ignore the impact of family and society on women in India during their formative years. But, the time has finally come to celebrate a great occasion in Indian history; which is the end of a male dominated era. The chatter about women paving their way into unknown territories has firmly set in. They have taken over businesses like e-commerce, education, finance, fitness, travel, fashion, retail, hospitality and what not, rapidly boosting the economies of almost all countries. This bold, independent, qualified and fearless gender has broken barriers, risen above the challenges, made a mark for themselves both within the country as well as overseas.
Not many people know this but a quarter of the country’s potential talent pool is Women. Yes, the so called home makers are now the world makers. This post is to honor those incredibly inspirational female entrepreneurs who I believe have changed the world around them.
Indira Nooyi, current chairman and CEO of PepsiCo, is a woman with a mission who one can accredit the torch of leadership too. An inspiration for those working in IT sector , is the woman with ‘never-say-die’ spirit is Neelam Dhawan the Managing Director of Hewlett-Packard (HP), India. The woman who changed the face of Indian television is the prolific Ekta Kapoor, is a classic example of how being fierce and highly competitive can get you a long way in a man’s world. Breaking the age barrier is the dynamic, Richa Kar who revamped the way most Indian women bought lingerie by offering them an entirely different and enjoyable shopping experience by starting Zivame.
These woman have faced a plethora of problems when it came to embarking upon thier own entrepreneurial venture. But today they are role models who have set benchmarks for every Indian- both males and females.
“Whatever you do, be different – that was the advice my mother gave me, and I can’t think of better advice for an entrepreneur. If you’re different, you will stand out.” – Anita Roddick
